A realtor doesn’t stay busy by just luck - it takes hard work, dedication, and motivation to build a solid career in real estate. Forming helpful habits and routines to stay on track lays down a solid foundation for success in any business.
With a lot of research and learning from other real estate agents, we’ve put together 10 of the most important habits and practices of highly successful, top producing real estate agents. Try implementing a couple of these in your day-to-day routine to take your business and career to the next level!
10 SUCCESS HABITS OF TOP PERFORMING REAL ESTATE AGENTS
1. Have A Good Morning Routine
According to Tim Ferris, “if you win the morning, you win the day”. Many top athletes, entrepreneurs, and real estate agents believe this is true as well. It’s important to set a good morning routine for yourself to get started on the right foot. Meditation, affirmations, gratitude, journaling, reading, exercising, and visualizations are some great things you can incorporate into your routine to mentally, physically, and emotionally prepare for the day ahead.
2. Use Social Media
Social media is a great platform to grow your clientele and expand your business, and real estate is no exception! It’s helpful to have a strong digital presence to keep in touch with past clients and meet new potential leads. Using social media to display your milestones, past successes, and everyday life is a great way to share your personality, humanize your brand, show off your hard work, and really connect with your community.
3. Value Your Time
Time is EVERYTHING. Many real estate agents allow their clients to take advantage of one of the most precious and valuable things on this planet - time. Juggling everything as a realtor can be extremely overwhelming - to stay sane, time management is key. Using a calendar, making lists of reminders and to dos, and setting realistic expectations with clients makes it easier to manage your time.
4. Set Clear, Actionable Goals
Goal setting is essential for any project or career path, real estate included. You have to determine where you want to go, how you’re going to get there, and what you need to do to make it achievable. Setting goals for lead generation, blog posts, social media, listings, and closed transactions will help you to see your progress along the way!
5. Have Good Communication Skills
Successful agents are quick to return phone calls, emails, and texts from clients and industry professionals. Clients tend to get annoyed when they don’t get a response from their agent in a decent time frame; which is certainly understandable. Delayed responses often give people the impression that you’re not taking them seriously, which can result in lost leads and sales. One of an agent’s main jobs is answering questions and being the communicator between buyers and sellers - it’s important to take that roll seriously and to stay on-top of your communication skills.
6. Keep Learning & Educating Yourself
Learners are earners! It’s smart to continue studying after you pass the real estate exam and constantly be perfecting your craft. Audiobooks are great for the car (especially during a long day of showings!), attending group classes is an awesome idea for more hands-on learners, online courses are flexible and easy to fit into your busy schedule, and reading a good book is perfect for winding down with a glass of your favorite drink before heading to bed. It’s important to keep up with the industry and consistently keep learning and educating yourself!
7. Network, Network, Network
EVERY top-producing real estate agent understands the importance of networking and connecting with people. Being extroverted, engaging, confident, and charismatic allows potential and current clients to feel as if you’re an old friend - which instantly builds trust and respect. A successful agent knows that it’s important to regard almost everyone they meet as a potential lead; friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, acquaintances, and social media followers - after all, you never know who’s looking for a good agent! ;)
8. Know Your Areas, Market, And Neighborhoods
Knowing the ins and outs of your area and the general market is crucial as an agent. Successful realtors are in the know when it comes to school systems, job opportunities, retail stores, nightlife, walkability, public transportation, crime rate, taxes, zoning, and development. It’s good to be aware what’s going on in different neighborhoods to be able to educate your clients and give them valuable information about certain areas. This will also allow you to provide buyers and sellers with the facts they need to be proactive and make informed decisions.
9. Set Good Habits & Systems
Having the right habits is what differentiates top producing agents from the other 2M realtors in the US. Creating systems for lead generation, customer relationship management, marketing, bookkeeping, and transaction management will allow you to stay organized and keep things moving in the right direction without having to question or second guess yourself. Building habits can be a challenging process - but once you do it over and over again, it’ll become second nature to you!
10. Go The Extra Mile + Build A Good Reputation
Without your clients, you wouldn’t have a business! Word of mouth is one of the most important aspects of advertising, especially in real estate. You don’t want your clients to walk away JUST satisfied - you want them to be so impressed and excited that they are telling everyone they know. Over half of all buyers have found their real estate agent through referrals - so going the extra mile and building an A+ reputation should be one of your biggest priorities!
